One of the world's leading steel & mining companies asked Hydrotech to rebuild and modernize a system critical to the overall production of various steel-based products. The system in question was a very large, heavy-duty manifold + cylinder combination commonly called a turret cylinder. This was a giant cylinder, much larger than ones we commonly service. The turret cylinder was attached to two large "arms" which held & manipulated a ladle full of molten steel. These ladles can get up to 2-stories tall just to give you an idea of the sheer size of this particular application!
The solution was for an Ohio-based steel and mining company. Guided by a philosophy to produce safe, sustainable steel, they are a leading supplier of quality steel products in major North American markets including automotive, construction, pipe and tube, appliance, container and machinery. In the United States, the customer employs more than 18,000 people at 27 operations. Hydrotech takes great pride in being able to assist a customer that employs that many US workers and is directly in-line with our Mission Statement: To Strengthen the Competitiveness of US Manufacturing.
The customer is capable of producing one ton of steel for slightly more than one worker hour. The industry average in the United States is 1.9 worker hours per ton, which is more than double the customer's productivity output figure.
Products made at this location are hot-rolled, cold-rolled and hot-dipped galvanized sheet and semi-finished (slabs). Markets this plant serves include automotive, converters and tubular applications.
